This breed of dog comes in four recognizable colors; Red (varies from deep chestnut to light chestnut, the darker the more prized), Black (black, cocoa, or jet black), Yellow (cream, caramel, fawn or isabella) and Blue (gun metal blue, silver or grey).

Most Thai Ridgebacks have black/blue pigmentation on their tongues, this of course various to degrees. Toe nail color coincides with the coat color of the dog. The breed also has eight acceptable ridges.

Ten percent of all ridged breeds including the Thai Ridgeback and the Rhodesian (from Africa) are born with out the "signature" ridge. This doesn't mean that they are not pure bred.

Ten percent of all Thai Ridgebacks are born long/plush coated. Since we are on the throw back issue, let us not forget that on occasion dogs from Northern Thailand sometimes throw puppies with dew claws on their rear legs.
